In life, it’s important to find a financial planner you trust to provide sound, unbiased advice and professional services. Being CFP® certified means someone has voluntarily taken the extra steps needed to provide the highest possible standard of financial planning to those they serve. To become a Certified Financial Planner™ professional one must pass the comprehensive CFP® Certification Exam, have a minimum of three years’ professional experience in financial planning process and must be approved by the CFP Board, which involves an extensive background check – including an ethics, character and criminal check. To maintain certification, CFP® professionals must complete 30 hours of continuing education accepted by the CFP Board every two years.

Business owners face complex financial considerations at the intersection of their personal wealth and business achievements. They also must weather risks uncommon to other investors. The Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA®) certification was designed to address these specific demands while building value in the business and equity for its owner. CEPA®-credentialed advisors supplement their investment and wealth management experience to better align their clients’ businesses’ value and their personal financial plans. This may include the sale of the business, though CEPA® advisors are trained to explore other options, as well, that keep the two sides of their clients’ lives in alignment.
To earn the credential, financial professionals must complete the training program created by the Exit Planning Institute. The executive MBA-style program includes 16 modules taught by 11 experienced instructors, followed by an examination. Every three years, CEPA®-credentialed advisors must complete 40 hours of continuing education requirements to renew.
