A Recommendation Worth Repeating

Back in February of 2020, I wrote about Steve Gilbert in this space (Finer Things - Feb 2020). Steve is a baseball writer for MLB.com…he reports on all things related to the Arizona Diamondbacks. His “side hustle” is writing a motivational email (almost daily) called “Win Your Day!” and I cannot recommend subscribing to it enough, which is why I am again writing about it here.

I have met Steve and he is one of the most humble, unassuming, kindest people I have ever encountered. His short, yet powerful messages have helped me immensely over the past few years since I discovered them. I am amazed at his ability to continually come up with something new to say almost every day. I know that a lot of you subscribe already (many of you have commented on some of my Friday quotes that have been “sampled” from Steve’s emails) and I know from feedback that you feel the same…this message is intended for those who did not sign up the first time.

Here is a recent one that hit home extremely hard:

Hard as it is for a writer to admit, sometimes a picture is really worth 1,000 words.

Today, be aware of just how often you’re not fully present in your life. There’s nothing we can do to change the past and the future will come soon enough. This moment that we have right now, however, will never come again. Let's not waste it.

Win Your Day!
Steve Gilbert

I asked Steve if there was anything he wanted to say about his “Win Your Day!” journey for this column. He replied in his true humble fashion, “I never knew that it would grow to over 3,000 subscribers. I’m just glad if it helps one person have a better day.”

*If you are not on Steve Gilbert’s Win Your Day! email list, but would like to be added, please click here or email him at winyourday@gmail.com.

Wishing everyone a joyous holiday season!
