FINDING A PATH TO ADVENTURE in retirement
Jane and Mark, 49-year-old attorneys working in the corporate world, were ready to quit their day jobs. With visions of traveling the world and spending more time in the great outdoors, they were looking into retiring early but weren’t quite sure they could replace their paychecks with predictable income they would not outlive.
They had a high household income, which worked in their favor. But they knew there was room for improvement in the tax-efficiency of their investments. They had been thinking of hiring an accountant but kept putting it off. They also hadn’t updated their estate plan in years.
To begin, we would help Jane and Mark identify their needs and prioritize their goals. The ambitious goal of retiring early and traveling would require an in-depth analysis of their current assets and liabilities, as well as determining what a feasible budget would be. We would then construct a full wealth management plan.
Tax-efficiency is important in investing and would be a key consideration. We would refer Jane and Mark to an accountant we can collaborate with for the issues outside our expertise, as well as an estate attorney who could assist them in updating their estate plan.
We want them to be clear-eyed about what it would take to retire early, and have the confidence to pursue their ambitions.
