Sheldon Ray and Asif Bhally have been portfolio managers for decades, applying their global perspective to their separate, complementary investment strategies that they personally build. Their value-based strategy is designed to create a higher than average income stream, achieve capital appreciation and protect clients against equity market downside. Their growth-based strategy is focused primarily on US equity capital appreciation, with a fixed income component to mitigate risk. Their clients’ financial assets are aligned with their personal assets and they manage client funds in a fiduciary capacity.

Sheldon is a Certified Portfolio Manager, Sr. Vice President and International Wealth Advisor at Raymond James in Washington, DC. He and his partner manage two complementary investment strategies:

  • A global value-oriented portfolio of equities and fixed income for individuals and institutions  
  • A US growth-oriented portfolio of equities and fixed income for individuals and institutions

Sheldon's analysis focuses on risk management, corporate governance, global macroeconomics, and long-term geopolitical developments, in addition to dividend yields, price-to-earnings ratios, credit analysis and other fundamentals. He conducts his own research and maintains regular contact with senior government officials, diplomats, economists, regulators and journalists.

Sheldon began his stock market experience as a young investor (age 14) in the grueling bear market of the early 1970's. He entered the securities profession with Prudential Securities in 1996, and joined Raymond James in February of 2015, after working at Morgan Stanley and UBS. Previously, Sheldon worked in the real estate investment business in Hong Kong in the 1980’s. Sheldon's Hong Kong experience was pivotal in developing his global perspective .

Sheldon currently serves as chairman of the board of the Osgood Center (www.osgoodcenter.org), on the advisory board of the SEC Historical Society (www.sechistorical.org), treasurer of the Foreign Policy Discussion Group (www.fpdg.org), finance committee and board of directors of Watergate South and co-chair of Rotarians for the Equality of Black People Committee. He has been active in the Rotary Club of Washington , D.C. for over 30 years, after joining Rotary initially in Hong Kong in 1988.

Sheldon regularly speaks to various groups on international financial markets and global corporate governance issues. Audiences include Fudan University in Shanghai, University of Chicago Graduate School of Business Alumni, National Defense University, Renmin University in Beijing, the Foreign Service Institute of the Department of State and the American Association of Independent Investors. During Sarbanes/Oxley proceedings Sheldon advised SEC commissioners on non-US securities regulations.

Sheldon has a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from Louisiana State University and received his Certified Portfolio Manager designation from Columbia University. He lives in Washington with his wife, Mary Beth, and is an Eagle Scout.

Asif Bhally

Senior Investment
Portfolio Analyst

Asif is a Senior Investment/Portfolio Analyst with experience that includes corporate finance, equity research and portfolio management. He previously served as a portfolio manager with the capital markets division of the Royal Bank of Canada’s US private client practice. He currently manages a growth-oriented equity and fixed income strategy. As part of this strategy he focuses on companies free cash flow metrics and utilizes macro and technical charting analysis. He is passionate about connecting with clients on a regular basis.

Prior to RBC, Asif was an equity research analyst with the capital markets division of Ferris, Baker Watts, Washington’s largest investment banking firm. Working directly with the director of research, he provided support and coverage of the firm’s institutional energy research sell side business and also worked with the engineering and construction equity research group to help expand research coverage.

Previously he worked within the deal section of MCI Telecom, providing valuation support to the senior deal team. Asif has done consulting assignments with the World Bank Group, the International Monetary Fund and the American Red Cross. Through his work at the Red Cross and member affiliation with Rotary, Asif worked on community projects, including Rotary’s worldwide effort to eradicate Polio, for which he earned recognition from Rotary and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Asif is a dedicated volunteer with The Citizens Foundation, a non-profit charity dedicated to the improvement of lives of underprivileged children in South East Asia.

Asif earned a Master of Business Administration in finance from the Kogod School of Business at American University and a degree with majors in business and economics from Edinboro University. He has appeared on Money Matters monthly TV show and Fox News as a subject matter expert on market cycles and investments. Asif lives in Bethesda, Maryland with his wife and daughter, and is an avid tennis player and fan.

Karen began her financial services career in 1998 in the branch operations department of Merrill Lynch’s Washington, D.C., office. She was soon promoted to operations manager and responsible for the handling of client deposits and withdrawals.

In 2010, she moved to Morgan Stanley and joined R&R Global Asset Management as a registered client service associate, where she worked closely with clients and was responsible for the day-to-day administration and operations of the group.

Karen is a native of Seattle and has an identical twin sister. In her free time, Karen enjoys spending time outdoors, baking and travel and is a big fan of NASCAR and Formula One racing. She has two cats, Shelby and Vette.
