Covered calls
Covered call writers are obligated to sell shares at the strike price if assigned, which limits possible gains and may result in a taxable gain for the option writer. This strategy does not usually provide protection from significant downward price movements and the covered call writer will not participate in any appreciation of the underlying stock above the strike price.

Investing in mutual funds can be an effective way to diversify some or all of your holdings. A growing segment of the investment market, mutual funds are professionally managed portfolios whose shares are sold to the public in much the same way that stocks are.
When it comes to planning for and living in retirement, patience and discipline are more than virtues – they’re necessities. While many people think in terms of that single date, the most important part of retirement is all the days that come after day one – because today’s retirements are more active, more complex and longer than ever before. We’ll help you plan for all the goals and stages of a full, long-term retirement by developing a comprehensive retirement income plan – for day one and on.
Individual equities can often play a significant role in achieving your long-term objectives. While owning equities may increase the volatility within your portfolio, they can also open the door to opportunities.
Whether you’re accumulating wealth or looking for income in retirement, we can help.
If your goals include providing for the future of a child or grandchild, we can help you investigate your many options and develop an education funding strategy. We can help you provide for this opportunity with investment vehicles such as Coverdell education savings accounts, 529 college savings accounts and specialized trust vehicles.
Bonds can play an important role in a well-diversified portfolio. They can provide predictable income and, most important, relative safety of principal.* Also, bonds may help minimize overall volatility. We can find the appropriate fixed income vehicles that meet your objectives and can develop specific income strategies as part of your overall asset allocation plan.
* If held to maturity, subject to issuer credit risk. If sold prior to maturity, you will receive the then-current market value, which may be more or less than your initial investment.

I believe one of the most underutilized strategies by individual investors may be the “covered call option.” For our clients who own individual stock positions as part of their overall wealth management plan, we encourage having the ability to write a covered call against their stock position, under the right circumstances. A covered call option produces income, modestly hedges against a potential price drop in the stock but may also limit the potential upside of the stock. To learn more about covered call options and how they can play an important role in your overall wealth management plan, call me today.

Options involve risk and are not suitable for all investors. When appropriate, options should comprise a modest portion of an investor's portfolio. Prior to buying or selling an option, a person must receive a copy of “Characteristics and Risks of Standardized Options” (ODD). Copies of the ODD are available from your financial advisor, from cboedirect.com/Resources/Intro.aspx or by contacting Raymond James at 880 Carillon Parkway, St. Petersburg, FL 33716.
