The keynote speaker this year was David M. Rubenstein co-founder of The Carlyle Group, one of the world's largest private equity firms. Carlyle has grown into a firm managing more than $200 billion from 40 offices around the world. When it comes to investing - diversification is the golden rule. Appropriately allocating assets to account for personal objectives, risk tolerance and time horizons is a critical part of a thorough financial plan. For many, a mix of traditional investments – such as stocks and bonds – is the typical approach. However, investors can further diversify their portfolios and potentially enhance returns by employing other asset classes, such as commodities and real estate, or investing in traditional asset classes in nontraditional (or "alternative") way. The universe of alternative investment strategies is extremely broad. Finding asset classes capable of adding diversification has become increasingly difficult due to the globalization of world markets. Raymond James continually monitors the alternative investments landscape to select investment opportunities and make them available to clients.
