Our Founder
Christopher J. (“Chris”) Whybrow
Our practice was established by Christopher J. (“Chris”) Whybrow who retired in January 2025. Chris is a native of England and attended Burstow Nautical Training School in Surrey, and Pitman’s College in London. He began his career with Shaw & Co., stockbrokers and members of the London Stock Exchange, in London in 1958. Shaw specialized in trading South African gold stocks between the London, Cape Town and Johannesburg stock exchanges, and tin and rubber stocks between Hong Kong, Singapore, Rangoon and London. Chris loved the excitement of trading in these markets and he became a licensed London Stock Exchange broker. In 1960 he emigrated to the U.S., specifically to Chicago, where he had been offered a job in financial services. Chris worked in brokerage operations for several years and obtained his U.S. brokerage license in 1965.
He was an institutional brokerage salesman and a branch manager of a large brokerage office in Chicago for some years but for most of his career he worked with individual clients, helping them invest for their retirement and other goals.
Chris served a three year term on the NASD (Now FINRA) district committee, the self regulatory arm of the investment industry and he has sat on the boards of Thresholds, The Jane Adams Center of Hull House and The Old Town School of Folk Music. He lives with his wife Cynthia and cat Winnie, in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago.
