Another Milestone to Make Us All Feel Old
Some of you who have been with me since 2001 might recall the birth of my second son, Brett, way back then. I apologize for my personal diatribes in this space which make many of us (myself included) feel old, but Brett graduated from college a few weeks ago.
As Debbie and I sat at his graduation ceremony at University of Arizona, we could not help reflecting on how far we all have come as a family. We are now through TEN of our twelve straight years of college tuition…and the “triple years” have mercifully ended! We are down to two “doubles” left for the twins, which oddly enough, seems like child’s play at this point! As I often have joked to people who sympathize with our plight, “If you have a half-decent financial advisor, you can plan it all out!”
Every year I enjoy reading the various graduation speeches that go viral and this year is no exception. A good friend and RJ colleague sent me Bill Gates’s speech from Northern Arizona University (that is not a typo…Bill Gates spoke at NAU’s graduation!) and I thought it was worth sharing.
A special shout out to my 80-year-old parents…they had four grandchildren graduate college in one week (two of them from the same school) and they made it to all three graduations—Emory University, University of Colorado, and University of Arizona…quite a week for them!
5 things I wish I heard at the graduation I never had
