Golf Fan or Not, You Will Enjoy Full Swing
With The Masters golf tournament approaching, and many of us in search of something light-hearted and fairly relatable amongst the backdrop of tumultuous and likely overblown headlines, I thought it was an appropriate time to recommend a recent Netflix show that I am sure most golf fans have already binged. In my opinion, even those who are not golfers or avid fans will enjoy Full Swing. The eight-episode series covers the lives of professional golfers on and off the course across a season of high-stakes competition during the PGA Tour.
I have written about my affinity for The Masters in this space before (Finer Things - May 2018 and Finer Things - May 2019) and touched on the controversy of the LIV golf tour more recently (Finer Things - July 2022). I am a high handicapper on an endless quest to improve. While I humbly say that my golf goal is to “stink less,” I enjoy the game as much as anyone I know. But I have heard about the show from many friends and family who are not golfers and/or would not call themselves golf fans…every one of them who watched has enjoyed the series.
My wife recently watched season one over the course of a few days. I enjoyed the series so much on the first pass that I tried to re-watch along with her, but to no surprise to those who know me well, I often fell asleep! I thoroughly enjoyed hearing her opinions about different golfers, family members and events that the series captured. Any time that viewers have the kind of “inside access” that Full Swing provides, it is usually quite entertaining.
Recently, the PGA Tour has put its best effort forward to grow the game and grow their audience, especially in the wake of the formation of LIV. As I watched the recent WM Open here in Scottsdale as well as other exciting events like the Genesis Invitational, the Honda Classic, the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill and The Players Championship, my excitement for Season Two of Full Swing is percolating!
Enjoy The Masters and for those who haven’t watched, give Full Swing a try!
