A Few of the Finer Things - August 2013

This month’s Finer Things comes to you from my wonderful Client Service Associate, Lauren! She writes…

I recently had the opportunity to visit Butterfly Wonderland (off the east side of the 101 and Via de Ventura), the newest attraction for all ages in Scottsdale. The Wonderland has an indoor rainforest featuring the largest butterfly pavilion in America and features thousands of butterflies from around the world.

The experience began in the 3D Theater featuring the story and life of butterflies called “Flight of the Butterflies.” I found this movie fascinating and learned that butterflies have the longest known insect migration on Earth. I was then directed into a room called the Butterfly Emergence Gallery which gives guests a rare opportunity to witness metamorphosis. Next stop was a small room that led to the best part of the tour–this is also where my boyfriend started to panic…who would have thought a 6’4” 200 lb. grown man would be afraid of butterflies? Bless his heart!

As we entered the Conservatory, we were immediately welcomed with a flutter of butterflies. This 10,000 square foot atrium shelters a rainforest environment with trees, tropical plants, waterfalls, Koi pond and of course BUTTERFLIES. If you are not the squeamish type, I encourage you to wear bright colors which will attract the butterflies to land on you, but don’t worry…when leaving the atrium, the associates do a body once over to make sure you don’t have any that you are trying to smuggle home with you. Bring your camera and enjoy…the butterflies are magnificent!
