March 2016 – St. Baldrick’s “Brave The Shave” event
This Spring marked the 8th consecutive year that Trevis Gillow has been an active participant and host organizer for the local St. Baldrick’s “Brave the Shave” event in Traverse City, MI. This year they surpassed their fundraising goal and raised over $56,000. Trevis was filmed Braving the Shave on 9&10’s Michigan This Morning, supporting the cause to fund childhood cancer research.
Traverse City, MI / March 15th –The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-driven charity dedicated to raising money for childhood cancer research, will host one of its signature head-shaving events at 7 MONKS TAPROOM on March 15th, where more than 25 will shave their heads in solidarity with kids with cancer and raise money to Conquer Childhood Cancers!
Why all the shaved heads? Worldwide a child is diagnosed with cancer every three minutes, and one in five children diagnosed in the U.S. will not survive. With only 4 percent of all federal cancer research funding dedicated to pediatric cancer research, St. Baldrick’s Foundation volunteers, supporters and donors are needed to continue the battle against this devastating disease.
Participants include, owners of 7 Monks Taproom, Matt Cozzens and Jim Smolak, employees of Short’s Brewery, employees of 7 Monks Taproom, Trevis Gillow and many others have volunteered to shave their heads for cancer research.
Short’s Brewery will also have 20 beers on tap for the adult crowd, while Moomer’s will be in attendance serving ice cream to the children.
The event raised nearly $25,000 in 2013 and hopes to approach $30,000 in 2014.
