AI Likelihoods – What could the future look like?

The benefits of AI can/will be dramatic.

The chaos, disruptions, and challenges of AI may be overwhelming.

Beneath all the hype, we need to remember that computers are just machines that operate with processors. The better and faster the processor, the better the computer is at the task of processing. As human beings we operate with a brain. Just like processors, not all brains have the same capabilities, nor are they all created equal. This is different from a humanistic perspective that all “humans” are created equal

In my lifetime I have never had an intelligent conversation with a computer nor have I met someone who has. That does not mean it’s not possible or will not be possible in the future. But, even if it is, we need to consider the advantage of the human brain its ability to think, deduce and connect dots.

If the computer gets to the point it has to be “taught” or “trained” to process like a human brain, then the question becomes “what is the bias and perspective of the trainer(s)?”.

Thinking beyond conventional wisdom and connecting the dots of a changing world may be too much to ask of a processor. That logic is not the same as processing data and doing calculations. The reality that science still does not fully comprehend how the brain works simply means that AI should not be considered the panacea for mankind’s ability to think even if this new technology can change the world as we know it.

Thoughtfully,

Chuck
