Retirement conversations

Summer is finally here. It is a time to relax and enjoy time with family and friends, and it is also vacation season.

As these summers pass by, you may find you no longer have to manage the kids by the water’s edge or make sure that they’ve applied enough sunscreen. Now, your children are off on their own, exploring the boundaries of the resort or traversing the bike paths in search of meeting other teens doing much of the same.

You may realize this summer, or one summer soon, that life is changing and that you and your spouse are moving to a new stage. You may begin to ask yourself what the next 10 years look like, or even start to think about the retirement years.

So, as you sit with your spouse by the beach or pool, the below questions are great conversation starters to begin retirement planning. Longevity studies show that couples can live as long in retirement as they did working. So, it is never too early to begin these discussions.

  • What does retirement look like for us?
  • What will our top priorities be in retirement?
  • When will we retire?
  • Are we behind? If so, how do we catch up?
  • Are we going to move?

As always, reach out to us if you would like to schedule a time to sit down and dig a little deeper into these questions. We can help you begin to outline what retirement may look like and make sure that we put a plan in place to help you achieve a successful retirement.

Remember, in the words of baseball great Yogi Berra, “If you don’t know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else.”
