Be Real

I frequently try and convince my wife that I am very close to being a PGA Golfer. I use this reasoning to excuse behavior such as:

  • Practicing my golf swing in the middle of aisle 7 at Publix – works well if I have an umbrella handy
  • Buying the latest golf gadget the internet algorithms feed me
  • Going to the driving range where I hit it just as bad as I did the previous countless times that I went to the driving range

Let’s be real – I’m not going to be a PGA golfer, and when investing, it’s hard to beat the market.

According to SPIVA Research, over a 10 year period, 90.03% of US Large Cap Funds underperformed the S&P 500 (https://www.spglobal.com/spdji/en/research-insights/spiva/). Thankfully, you can invest in low cost options – index funds – that provide you a similar return to the index that you want to track.
