The 5 Words We Can't Say

Lockdown, Quarantine, Social Distancing, Work from Home, Pandemic.

In 1972 George Carlin made comedy history with his groundbreaking “7 Words You Can’t Say on Television” routine. In this genius rant, he observed that there are 400,000 words in the English language, but only 7 were “bad words”.

His point is well taken. We as humans have given these words supernatural powers. They are essential in our ability to communicate, empathize, and sympathize. They make us human. This election cycle and its powerful use (ultraliberal, fascist, conservative, fake news, etc.) will be a case study for years to come.

During these past 9 months, I believe we have all taken time to take inventory of our lives.

Personally it has reminded and reinforced what is paramount in my life. Family, Friends, Health, Clients (no prioritized order, ALL are important). On this page they are just words, but they mean everything to our Cohen and Son Family.

In the midst of these difficult times, your words of caring and concern about us and our families have meant everything. When the market tumbled in March, your calls were (mostly) not about money. They were about relationships. “Are you healthy”, “Is your family ok”, and “I trust you”. Your words meant everything.

You have often heard me say that we are a family office and we treat our client relationships as such. You have given us the great honor of entrusting us to help multiple generations achieve financial goals and dreams. We will continue to be here to guide you through each crisis. While each difficult time is unique, please know that your investments are in experienced, steady hands and we have survived and thrived after each one.

Let us hope that we never have to say those 5 words as we get through the middle of 2021. Until then, we think of those who are still suffering. We thank those who sacrifice every day, so we can be safe, sheltered and fed. This year, in lieu of holiday cards or gifts, we would like to donate to those less fortunate. We feel this is the best way to honor you. There are many who rely on food banks to provide them and their loved ones with their next meal. Now more than ever they hope for the generosity of those who are able.

Hunger exists, even in the land of plenty. Palm Beach Food Bank addresses the most basic of needs through service, partnership, respect, education and leadership. Along with all the other charities we support such as MADD, Gold Coast Down Syndrome Organization, and The Pap Corps, we are honored to be part of an agency that provides the most underserved in our communities.

We leave the insanity of 2020 behind with wishes of peace, health and prosperity in 2021.
