Dear Friends and Clients,
People may wonder what I do during the week. I try to be wiser each day, and apply my perspectives accordingly. This desire, combined with a bad shoulder which keeps me off the golf course, leads me to spend most of my time reading. My motivation? Having experienced several intense market situations during my career, I have developed a compulsion for being well-informed. Through this process of seeking wisdom from the wise, I hope to minimize pain and maximize rewards for clients and myself.
With time and effort, one will discover which inputs offer value and provide insight. Rather than focus on organizations (i.e., The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, etc.), I follow individuals. My primary sources are “Wall Street” types; people who manage large amounts of money, and whose fortunes depend on being objective, logical, and critical. I find little value in those who seek to influence by use of tribalism, fear, or rage. People who provide value are dedicated to evidence and discovery, not distortion or deception. To see why truth matters, I highly recommend the HBO series “Chernobyl”.
A sound process is critical for any endeavor. In the art world, painters combine a variety of colors, all of which come together to form a desired image. They typically use many colors, rarely just one or two. In similar fashion, I utilize multiple sources of information to shape my thinking … Wall Street research reports, corporate filings, financial blogs, newspaper articles, and magazine essays. Listening to selected webcasts and podcasts adds additional perspective. By combining a variety of quality inputs, I hope to ‘paint a picture’ that will help me enhance the lives of my clients.
Valentine’s Day is on the 14th. Please spread the love … I think we all need it.
If you enjoy my monthly missives, please share them with a friend. If you don’t, please tell me. My office hours are typically 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM. Pick up the phone and let me know what’s on your mind. In the meantime, I greatly appreciate your trust and friendship, and thank you for the opportunity to be of service.
