Raymond James hires Tavis McCourt as Institutional Equity Strategist

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Raymond James has hired Tavis McCourt as its first institutional equity strategist. McCourt, a managing director, will focus on developing thematic, market and macro-oriented research.

“We created this role to augment the high quality, bottoms-up fundamental research that Raymond James is known to deliver to our institutional clients,” said Brian Alexander, director of Equity Research. “We firmly believe that this unique and original content, along with our nascent Washington Policy research, will strengthen our client relationships, particularly with senior-level investment decision makers.

“Tavis will work collaboratively with our fundamental research analysts to identify key investment themes that may often cross sectors, teams, regions and asset classes – providing timely investment ideas to our clients, particularly in the small- and mid-cap space. Our approach will be differentiated from other institutional strategists, who tend to operate independent from fundamental research teams while focusing on large-cap stocks.”

McCourt returns to Raymond James after having spent the past year as an investment analyst with 12th Street Asset Management in Nashville, Tennessee, and prior to that he spent more than 20 years as a senior equity research analyst covering communications technology stocks, first with Morgan Keegan, then with Raymond James, when the firm acquired Morgan Keegan.

“It is an absolute pleasure to return to Raymond James in this new role as institutional equity strategist,” stated McCourt. “I hope that my deep experience and passion for fundamental research can provide our clients with a highly differentiated and value-added approach to sector and stock selection in an institutional equity market increasingly driven by passive strategies. Working with what I believe to be the best collection of equity analysts in North America, we have the opportunity to add meaningfully to the success of our clients going forward.”

Added Jim Bunn, president of Global Equities & Investment Banking, “Throughout his career at Raymond James and Morgan Keegan, Tavis consistently demonstrated the attributes of a world-class analyst: unique insights, strong investment acumen, differentiated analysis, tireless work ethic and exceptional client service as well as producing some of the most thought-provoking research, often leading collaborative efforts with other analysts – including those outside the technology research team – in a very selfless manner. We are delighted to welcome him back to the firm.”
