No Apple For You

Shares of Apple stock went public for the 1st time in December 1980.

But at that time, Massachusetts barred its citizens from buying shares of Apple, as the state government deemed the shares too risky.

Per the Wall Street Journal on December 12, 1980, “Under the Massachusetts ruling, the Apple stock falls short of several provisions aimed at weeding out highfliers that don’t have solid earnings foundations.”

A $100 investment in Apple shares in 1980 would be worth more than $125,000 today.
