The 2021 Virginia 500 is a list of the state's most powerful and influential leaders by sector assembled by the editors of Virginia Business. Inclusion on the list is based upon a variety of considerations, including annual revenue, newsworthiness, community involvement, diversity, number of employees (in Virginia and worldwide) and how large a presence the organization has in the commonwealth. Time period upon which the rating is based is from 08/01/2020 to 08/01/2021, and was released on 09/01/2021. Surveys were sent to over 750 individuals and the final list recognizes 500, with 49 honorees in the Finance & Insurance section. Each company and its subsidiaries have been limited to only three entries.
