Raymond James continues California growth, hires experienced municipal government leader for its Public Finance practice
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Raymond James is adding additional capabilities to its Public Finance practice with the hiring of Paul Arevalo as managing director in its Pasadena, California, office, further strengthening the firm’s expertise and coverage in the state.
Arevalo has extensive experience in municipal government and finance, having served as the city of West Hollywood’s city manager for more than 20 years until his recent retirement. In his time as city manager, Arevalo oversaw the development and implementation of the city’s long-range strategic plan and related large-scale capital projects, including the development or implementation of master plans for a new public library, parks and parking garages. Prior to his city manager role, Arevalo was the city’s director of finance.
“As the former city manager of the innovative and vibrant city of West Hollywood, Paul managed multiple large infrastructure projects that involved complex real estate strategies,” said Gavin Murrey, executive vice president and head of Public Finance/Debt Investment Banking at Raymond James. “His wealth of experience will add tremendous value, not only to our team but, most importantly, to our clients.”
Arevalo holds an undergraduate degree from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona and has completed the Berkeley Executive Seminar for City Managers at the University of California, Berkeley’s Goldman School of Public Policy. He has also done graduate work at the School of Public Administration at California State University, Los Angeles.
“After more than 30 years of city government leadership, it’s a privilege to be on the other side of the table helping other California municipalities improve for the benefit of their residents and businesses,” Arevalo said. “With a strong platform and growing presence throughout California, I’m thrilled to join Raymond James and its dedicated, client-focused team of professionals.”
Consistently ranked as a top 10 underwriter of municipal bonds nationally, Raymond James has one of the largest public finance practices in the country with approximately 170 professionals in 35 locations nationwide.* The firm offers municipal issuers a comprehensive distribution platform and the largest middle market sales force of any U.S. broker/dealer.
