Raymond James adds veteran investment banker J.P. Young to Specialty Finance practice
ST.PETERSBURG, Fla. – Raymond James has hired J.P. Young as a Managing Director in the Specialty Finance Banking practice, part of the firm’s Financial Services Investment Banking group. Young will be based in Chicago and focus on expanding the firm’s advisory and capital formation services to commercial and consumer finance companies.
“J.P. is a highly regarded professional with deep expertise in the specialty finance sector,” said John Roddy, Managing Director and head of Raymond James Financial Services Investment Banking practice. “He’s adept at delivering results to clients, and I’m thrilled to welcome him to our team.”
Young joins an already strong and established team of senior bankers in the Specialty Finance group, including Jonathan Knauss, Managing Director (Chicago); Larry Herman, Managing Director (Memphis); and Sean Martin, Managing Director (Toronto).
“I am very excited to be joining the highly successful Raymond James Specialty Finance Investment Banking team,” Young stated. “Raymond James has built a powerful global investment banking platform with a broad base of services, resources and industry expertise that I am looking forward to leveraging on behalf of our clients.”
Young comes to Raymond James from William Blair & Co., where he was a managing director in Chicago, and spent the last nine years engaged in building and maintaining client relationships and delivering strategic advice and transaction execution for a broad range of financial services clients including M&A, public equity, public debt and private placements. Prior to Blair, he spent four years with Macquarie Capital (USA) Inc., as part of a team responsible for providing advisory services and assessing principal investments within the financial services industry. He began his career in 1995 with SEI Investments and had subsequent stints at Fleet Business Credit Corp., Piper Jaffray & Co. and FBR Capital Markets before joining Macquarie.
A graduate of Lehigh University with a bachelor’s degree in finance, Young also earned his M.S. in computer science from the University of Chicago.
“During his almost three-decade career, J.P has closed over 100 transactions valued at over $12 billion,” said Jim Bunn, co-president, Global Equities and Investment Banking at Raymond James. “His addition to our team, following on the heels of our announcement to acquire the boutique investment bank Silver Lane Advisors, LLC, cements our reputation as a truly global investment bank in the financial services space.”
