Summer 2024
I love getting questions from you, our clients. It lets me know what is on your mind. I might be talking about one thing, but something completely different might be on your mind. At the beginning of each annual meeting, Cliff, Mike, and I ask you if you have any questions. In fact, Nina, also asks you prior to our meeting, if you’d like to add anything to our agenda. We want to know what you are thinking.
Not too long ago, I was meeting with some newer clients. While we were talking about the investment recommendations, our plans, and goals, I could tell one spouse had questions. He replied that he did, but wasn’t quite sure how to put it. He said in his line of work, they would call it a ‘field adjustment.’ “Do you ever make field adjustments,” he asked? What he wanted to know was that as we were sitting here talking about this plan, things can change – does that or can that change the plan? The answer is, yes!
When he asked about field adjustments, in his line of work, he realized that sometimes you get out to a project site and things are different than anticipated and thus, you need to be able and ready to make a change if needed. We do that too. As you know, we are not day traders. We are long term investment and retirement planners. We identify your goals, your timeline, the amount of risk you are willing and able to assume and plan accordingly. Sometimes things change – and suddenly. A job change can happen. A death in the family can occur. A serious and unexpected illness happens. A new child or grandchild enters the picture. You win the lottery. Life happens and we adjust when and as needed.
Not only do things happen in your life, but in the markets as well. No one could have predicted Covid or the severe drop in the stock market that followed the next few months. We called each of you with our thoughts for your situation and gave our recommendations for what you should do. We made a field adjustment.
Sometimes field adjustments for you happen here behind the scenes. We are always evaluating the investments we are using for your portfolio. Depending on your particular mix of investments, we might be evaluating individual mutual funds, a portfolio manager we hired, or individual stocks you have. If changes need to be made, you hear from us with our recommendations.
Life happens. We are here to make sure that the plans we have in place, fits what you need and what is going on with you. When things change, we adjust accordingly. Life well planned.
