Do you feel heard? I find nothing more frustrating than being in a conversation with someone and not feeling heard. I have two older brothers, one who listens and one who doesn’t. The fact of the matter is that for whatever reason, I talk more with the one who is not a good listener. Let me share how that conversation goes….
We exchange pleasantries, what’s new with you, perhaps some family updates and then we might get into the nitty gritty. Sometimes there is a serious conversation about homelife, our parents, or just life in general but for the most part, I do a lot of listening and my brother does a lot of talking. Then, when it is my turn to talk (if that happens) it is met with frequent interruptions and jokes and really, I just stop talking. On the rare occasion, when something is super serious, he will stop and listen, but mostly, I just end up feeling like why do I even bother. Quite honestly, it’s not the best feeling. I leave the conversation feeling frustrated and irritated.
It has come to my attention recently, that sometimes, women feel that way in the relationship they have with their financial advisor. When I heard this, my heart sank, because that is the last thing I would want to happen. Our conversations are an integral part of our relationship. Knowing and understanding your needs, fears, goals, and dreams are what I want to hear. While Cliff, Mike or I would not intentionally come into a meeting or phone conversation to make you feel unheard, it can happen. We are human.
So, what can we do? We can make sure we have time set aside for you. Whether it is a meeting or a phone call, that is time we are taking to talk with you about your situation and goals. Everything else can wait until we are finished with you. Cliff, Mike and I make sure when meetings or phone calls are scheduled, we have that time blocked off on our calendars, so we are not double booked. If one of us becomes unavailable, you have the whole team here to help. If it is investment related, Cliff, Mike or I will be your contact, if it is something Jodi or Kasey can take care of for you, know you are in the best of hands.
What can you do? Keep us accountable. Is there something you have experienced that could have been handled better? Please let us know. We are continuously improving how our team works together and works for you. We want to hear your feedback so that we can continue to grow and improve for you! Also, don’t be afraid to ask. As women, we can sometimes hold back thinking our questions are irrelevant or unimportant. I assure you; they are not! Ask and share what is on your mind. If we are not explaining something in a way that make sense, let us know so we can make sure you understand.
We work for you! You chose us because we care about you, your family, and your nest egg. We are here to make sure you have a clear understanding of your investments and the strategies we are using to help you achieve your goals. Please remember, we are here to help!
