January 2025

We have a big house project that is starting today.  Let me be clear, any house project we have  always feels big to us, or to me at least. In addition, you may have concluded from earlier reads that I am a creature of habit, and thus even if something puts a small jiggle in my routine, it can feel like a big change to me.  While the footprint of our project is not too large, it has been in the planning and savings stages for a couple of years and today the fun begins.

The last time we had a project that displaced us from a well-used living space, I really struggled. There was one day during that project that I literally could not be inside the house after I arrived home from work and sat outside for hours.  Thankfully, it was summertime, but the point is I felt overwhelmed by the chaos and mess.  This time, I expect to have a better mindset. Since it involves our primary bedroom and bathroom, we have set up a sleeping sanctuary in a different bedroom. In addition, since this project has been on my mind for so long, I am excited to get started and am focusing on what the end result will be.  I know that even though the next few months will be odd, it is a small stretch compared to the time we get to enjoy the finished project.

While I am mentally prepared for the start of the project, I also know that bumps and roadblocks may happen along the way. The good news is that we have a plan and while we may need a course correction, we have a map to guide us to the end result.

This is also how we view your annual meeting and financial planning with us.  Maybe we have recently done a formal retirement plan or maybe we discussed that a long time ago.  Either way, things change, and we may need to revisit or revise things accordingly.  It is important to make the necessary course corrections and ensure we are on the right path for you to enjoy your finished project.  Either way, our conversations together are the planning and saving stages making way for your future.

Have you ever noticed that when we talk with you at your annual meeting, we first ask what questions you have?  Have you also noticed that we ask about changes in your life and upcoming expenses?  These questions aren’t by accident. They are purposely designed so that we can discuss options and anticipate bumps that may be coming up that we need to plan for.  We also know that things happen outside of our regular meetings. If this is the case, please give us a call or send us an email with the update. We are here to help and need to know what is going on so we can best help and advice you.
