While I would like to sit here and boast about all the ways I boost my brain activity, I have to admit that one of the things my husband, Roger, and I enjoy doing is watching TV. In fact, after the dishes are done and our evening walk is complete, we like to put on some comfy clothes and transition into the “TV watching portion of our evening.” When the network favorites are on hiatus, we usually have a couple of programs going on Netflix or Amazon Prime. We often choose a drama or more serious program, and then something very lighthearted.
Currently, the serious program we are finishing is a medical documentary called, Lenox Hill. It focuses on several doctors at the Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. You get to see a little bit of their personal lives, but the focus is on their work and interactions with their patients. In particular, there are several neurosurgeons highlighted and the very difficult conversations they must have with some of their patients who have brain tumors, and often with fatal conditions. I have to admit, I have had a few teary moments during the program. The doctors do such a good job of relaying all of the pertinent information, but also remember that this is a human being not just a case.
After a recent episode, I found myself thinking how thankful I am that I do not have to have those conversations with people and make some of those difficult decisions. I thought how hard it must be to have a conversation with someone about something so vital. As soon as I had this thought, however, it occurred to me, that while we are not neurosurgeons, we are helping clients navigate situations where they are relying on our expertise and knowledge. Now, granted, unlike our neurosurgeon friends, no one has ever died from a bad investment recommendation (that I am aware of), our recommendations can be crucial for important life decisions. Choosing how much money to save while working, when to retire or helping see how much money you can spend in retirement can make a difference in your financial picture.
Your doctor is the professional you rely on when it comes to your health. Cliff and I are the professionals you rely on when it comes to your money’s health. Just as the doctors in the program had a team that they work with and consult with for each of their patients, we too have a team working together for your good. Let us know how we can help you.
