Today we are going to discuss Medicare and 5 of the myths surrounding the program.

#1) Medicare offers free healthcare.

False. Medicare part A does cover hospitalization and some services and does not charge a

premium. However, you are still responsible for co-pays, coinsurance and deductibles.

#2) Medicare covers everything.

False-Dental vision and hearing are not covered and prescription drugs are only

offered through Medicare Part D and Medicare Advantage plans.

#3) Medicare Advantage or part D coverage will fill gaps in my coverage.

This is also false. Medicare Advantage sometimes referred to part C uses private insurers to cover things

such as dental vision and hearing.

#4) Medicare will not cover me.

This is false. Pre-existing conditions are covered and they cannot charge you more as a result of it, so that is a distinct advantage. However, if you are a high earner, you will pay more in premiums.

#5) I will be notified when it's time to sign up.

This is also false. You are eligible for Medicare benefits When you turn 65. Your enrollment

Period begins three months before your 65th birthday and last for four months after your birthday.

I recommend to all clients that they register as soon as they are eligible if you delay you can experience increases in your premiums on certain portions of Medicare.
