With sparkling water everywhere, the Tampa area is paradise for beachcombers, boaters and fishermen. Both Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico are a short drive away for most residents. In fact, the Tampa Bay area is home to some of the best beaches in the country. While not a complete list, here are a few worth visiting.

Caledesi Island State Park
Rated by some travel publications as the second-best beach in the country, this island paradise is only accessible by ferry or boat. White sandy beaches and native wildlife habitat make this an ideal location for a relaxing getaway.

This four-mile-long beach is one of the largest in the area. Thousands of tourists flock to this sandy haven every year, making it a popular destination year-round. Many restaurants have made their homes on the beach, providing diners with spectacular coastal views.

Fort DeSoto Park
With seven miles of pristine sand and crystal waters, it comes as no surprise that Fort DeSoto Beach has been ranked among the top ten beaches in the United States. The park provides miles of beach, two fishing piers, bike trails, and picnic and camping areas, as well as a boat ramp.

Honeymoon Island Beach
Dogs are welcome on portions of this beach, making it a popular destination for pet lovers. Ferry boats dock near the island, offering rides to top-rated Caledesi Island State Park.
